ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK

Tucked into the dense valley bushveld on the banks of the Sundays River in the Eastern Cape (just 72 km or 45 miles from Port Elizabeth), Addo Elephant Park provides some of the most spectacular elephant viewing in the world.

AN ELEPHANT SANCTUARY IN THE EASTERN CAPE

The Park was established in 1931 to save 11 elephants on the brink of extinction, and is now home to more than 350 of them, as well as 280 Cape buffalo, highly endangered black rhino, a range of antelope species, and a unique species of flightless dung beetle.

In addition to the famed Big Five, marine life such as whales and great white sharks can also be viewed in the park. Exciting future plans include the proposed proclamation of a marine reserve that includes the world’s largest breeding population of Cape gannets, as well as African penguins.

This is the third largest park in South Africa, offering a wide range of game viewing and outdoor safaris, horseback adventures, guided walks and scenic hikes. Guests can also explore an array of archaeological and historical sites.
